Harvest, Field

I’m notorious for late night web purchases. (Beer often plays a role.) I try not to go nuts - just a few dollars here or there. So far, drunken late-night purchasing has yet to bite me in the ass. (Although a fairly expensive set of CDs with recordings of numbers stations comes close.)

But I just love it when the package from Amazon or some even more eclectic seller drops through the mail slot. Otherwise, it would be nothing but bills, bills, bills.

Here are two recent arrivals that have delighted me to pieces:

On the left, “Harvest is When I Need You the Most,” in which nine cartoonists who are also Star Wars fans riff on the original trilogy. I’m no Star Wars geek, but this is a charming little book, and only seven bucks.

At right, Field Notes, a joint production of Coudal Partners and Draplin Design Co. These nice little notebooks are just right for slipping into your pocket and carrying with you everywhere. They are so beautiful, I’m almost reluctant to crack them open and start using them. Except that I have this overwhelming urge to crack them open and start using them. At a price of three for 10 bucks, I suppose I could do both.

Dude... you summed up my on-line buying habits precisely! And, uh... this is exactly how I ended up with a set (or two) of Field Notes notebooks.

Believe it or not, I ran across a mention of the "numbers stations" recordings quite some time back, and wasted way too much time reading about them. In that case, however, I avoided making a purchase! ;-)

Entertaining write-up!
